Malta Car Rental Help: Practical Questions and Next Steps

Updated: October 11, 2026 · Vrenty Car

Rental questions are easier to resolve when you identify the immediate problem and the person who can act on it. Vrenty Car's help guide covers common planning situations without inventing customer stories or universal supplier rules. Use your selected offer for eligibility and payment, your voucher for booking and collection contacts, and the rental agreement for vehicle use and assistance. The examples below are decision aids, not accounts of actual customers.

I have not decided whether to rent

Start with two ordinary days from your itinerary. For each, list the accommodation address, planned stops, passengers and luggage. Compare the complete route by car and by other transport, including parking or transfers. If the car adds little on a city day but helps on a touring day, a shorter rental may fit. The important outcome is a usable holiday plan, not a commitment to drive every day because Malta is easy to view on one map.

Before comparing Malta car rental offers, identify the constraints that cannot change. These might be the driver's documents, a particular payment method, room for equipment or a fixed collection time. A car that fails one essential requirement is not a useful shortlist candidate. After those requirements are met, compare total cost, transmission and collection convenience. Keep optional preferences separate so you can recognise a suitable alternative when the first choice is unavailable.

I cannot tell whether the luggage will fit

Count the bags by shape and size rather than using only a passenger count. Include a pushchair, mobility aid, sports equipment and the items that must stay accessible. Check the boot with all the seats you intend to use upright. A vehicle advertised with several seats can lose much of its luggage capacity when every seat is occupied. Ask for useful measurements or confirmation from the supplier when an item is essential.

At collection, load the car before departing if you are unsure. Do not leave luggage unsecured where it could obstruct the driver or move into passenger space. If the booked car cannot meet a confirmed essential requirement, raise that with the supplier and booking support immediately. Avoid solving the problem by removing a required restraint or carrying equipment in an unsafe position. A practical fit matters more than the category name printed in the listing.

My documents or payment method may be unusual

Describe the issue before paying. For a licence, explain the issuing country, format and any relevant renewal or expiry question, without sending a full copy to an unverified contact. Ask which originals and supporting documents the selected supplier requires. For payment, specify the card type, physical format and cardholder relationship to the main driver. A general question such as whether cards are accepted is unlikely to resolve an unusual situation.

Use the renting without a credit card guide to separate the reservation payment, collection balance and deposit. Save the answer for the actual vehicle and dates. If the offer changes, check that the approval still applies. A successful online payment is not proof that the supplier has approved every document or payment detail, so do not postpone the question until the handover.

My confirmation has not arrived

Check the email address entered during booking and look in spam or other filtered folders. Review whether the booking process showed a confirmation and preserve any reference or payment receipt. Contact Localrent through its official contact page with those details if the status remains unclear. Do not pay again immediately simply because the email is missing; first establish whether the original transaction and reservation were completed.

If another traveller made the reservation, ask them to share the relevant confirmation privately and ensure the actual driver has access to it. Check the main driver's name, dates and locations once the voucher arrives. A receipt from a payment provider may confirm a transaction without containing the complete collection instructions. Keep both records where available, but use the booking service to resolve the reservation status rather than inferring it from the bank balance alone.

My flight is delayed or I cannot find the representative

Use the supplier contact saved from the voucher. Send the booking reference, actual location and the new arrival estimate if relevant. Ask for a precise meeting instruction or confirmation of the revised handover. Flight monitoring may not explain a baggage delay or a change to a different flight number, so communicate the facts you know. Keep the phone available for a reply rather than walking between unrelated rental desks without a confirmed destination.

If you cannot reach the supplier, contact Localrent's official booking support and keep a record of attempted communications. Avoid assuming an unrelated person offering a car represents your reservation. Verify identity before handing over documents or money. The airport rental guide explains what to save before travelling, including a written location description and a fallback for an arrival outside the agreed hours.

The car or agreement differs at collection

Identify what changed and why it matters. A different vehicle might have less luggage space, the wrong transmission or a missing essential extra. An agreement might show a payment or condition you do not recognise. Compare it with the confirmation and ask the representative for an explanation. Raise material concerns before signing or driving away, and involve the booking service when the supplier's answer does not resolve the discrepancy.

Keep the discussion specific and factual. Describe the confirmed requirement, the offered arrangement and the resolution you need. Take photographs of the relevant vehicle condition when appropriate and retain the documents. Do not assume that an upgrade label makes every substitution suitable, or that accepting the keys silently preserves an unexpressed objection. Equally, avoid guessing at contractual consequences: ask the responsible parties to explain the applicable terms for your booking.

A warning light appears or the car breaks down

Stop in a safe place when the vehicle may be unsafe to continue and seek emergency assistance if the situation requires it. Contact the supplier's assistance channel, describe the warning or symptoms and give a precise location. Ask whether you should remain where you are and what happens next. Do not continue driving merely to reach a planned activity if the supplier or vehicle instructions indicate that doing so could be unsafe.

Obtain approval before arranging a repair, recovery or replacement service if you expect the supplier to cover it. Record the instructions, reference and any authorised expense. A roadside service and an insurance claim are not necessarily the same process. The deposit and protection guide helps explain the distinction, but the actual assistance response must come from the supplier and any relevant protection provider.

I notice damage after a parking stop

Check the situation safely and photograph what you can observe, including the location and wider context. Compare with the collection record if it is available, but do not delay required reporting while trying to prove when the mark appeared. Contact the supplier and follow its instructions about documentation or a police report where required. State what you know and avoid assigning blame without evidence.

Do not arrange a cosmetic repair or attempt to hide the damage. Keep messages, photographs and any official reference together. Ask whether the car can continue to be used and what must happen at return. Your protection depends on its written conditions and reporting duties, not simply the size of the deposit. If another vehicle or person is involved, handle any immediate safety needs first and follow the appropriate official and supplier procedures.

The route or ferry plan no longer works

A closure, unsuitable road or cancelled activity is a reason to reconsider the itinerary, not permission to ignore signs or contract restrictions. Choose another lawful route or stop. If Gozo is involved, supplier permission and current ferry operation remain separate requirements. The Gozo rental car ferry guide explains why a vehicle ticket does not authorise the rental to travel and why the return needs a margin.

If disruption affects the rental end time, contact the supplier before the booking expires. Explain where you are and request an approved solution. Keep the operator's notice or other relevant evidence, but do not assume it automatically changes the rental contract. A practical fallback could be dropping an optional stop, travelling as a passenger another day or changing a separate activity through its own booking channel.

I will be late returning the vehicle

Contact the supplier as soon as a late return becomes likely. Give a realistic estimate and ask whether an extension or revised handover can be agreed. Availability, cost and staffing may be affected. Do not assume a grace period or free additional time unless the applicable conditions expressly provide it. If an airport return is involved, keep the airline timing separate from the supplier discussion and protect your own onward travel plan.

For a changed return location or an unattended handover, obtain explicit instructions. Never leave the car and keys somewhere convenient without approval. Record the agreed location, time and procedure, then preserve evidence that you followed it. Before leaving, check the boot, pockets and charging points for belongings. Rushing can create an avoidable lost-item problem on top of the timing issue you are already trying to resolve.

A deposit or later charge needs explanation

First identify what the banking entry represents: a pending hold, a completed payment or a refund in progress. Ask the supplier for the release or charge reference and compare it with the return record. A bank display can change without showing a refund as a separate new entry, depending on the transaction type. Your issuer can explain its own processing, while the supplier must explain why it initiated a charge.

For a disputed amount, request the supporting record and calculation. Send a short chronology with the booking reference, collection and return evidence and the specific item you question. Contact Localrent for assistance with the reservation where relevant. If you have separate reimbursement protection, follow that provider's claim procedure too. Do not assume one organisation can resolve every stage of the payment, rental and insurance process.

Send a support request that can be acted on

A useful request states the booking, the problem and the next decision required. Keep unrelated travel details out of the first message. Attach only evidence relevant to the issue and avoid exposing full card data or another traveller's documents unnecessarily. Preserve originals privately in case the recipient needs a clearer copy through a secure channel.

  • 1. Identify the organisation able to make the required decision.
  • 2. Give the booking reference and one clear description of the issue.
  • 3. Attach relevant evidence without unnecessary sensitive information.
  • 4. Ask for a concrete next step or written clarification.
  • 5. Keep the response with the rest of the rental record.

Questions & answers

Can I book first and check driver eligibility later?

Check essential requirements before paying. The selected car can have age, experience, licence and payment conditions that prevent collection even after a reservation is made. Resolve any unusual situation with the booking service or supplier and save the answer for the exact offer.

Can a passenger move the car a short distance?

Only an authorised driver should take the wheel under the rental agreement. A short distance or a parking manoeuvre does not remove that requirement. Add another driver through the supplier's approved process and complete the required document and eligibility checks before they drive.

Should I buy extra protection at collection?

Compare what it changes, its price and any remaining exclusions before accepting it. Check whether it reduces liability directly or reimburses a payment later. Do not make the decision solely from a product name or assume that it removes the security deposit without written confirmation.

Can I return the vehicle when the office is closed?

Only use an unattended return when it is agreed for your booking. Obtain the exact parking and key instructions, document the vehicle and complete any requested notification. Leaving the keys in an improvised location is not a substitute for the supplier's authorised procedure.

What if I leave a personal item in the car?

Contact the supplier promptly with the rental reference, vehicle details and a description of the item. Ask how collection or delivery can be arranged. Do not assume airport staff or another rental company can access the vehicle, and verify the recipient before providing sensitive identifying information.

Can Vrenty Car guarantee the supplier's response time?

No. Use the current official contact information and the assistance details in your agreement. Vrenty Car provides planning guidance and does not operate a dispatch service or promise round-the-clock booking support. Immediate danger should be addressed through the appropriate emergency service.
